8 die in Gujarat COVID19 hospital fi
Short circuit believed to be the cause
Eight COVID19 patients — five men and three women — undergoing treatment at a private hospital here were killed in a fire that broke out at 3 a.m. on Thursday. The blaze, apparently caused by a short circuit, occurred in the ICU of COVID19 designated Shrey Hospital in Ahmedabad’s Navarangpura area. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ordered a probe. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sangeeta Singh and ACS (Urban Development) Mukesh Puri have been asked to submit a report within three days. Mr. Rupani has also asked them to find out if there was negligence on the part of the management. Meanwhile, it has emerged that the hospital did not have emergency exits and proper ventilation and fire safety systems. At least 40 other patients were shifted to the civic bodyrun SVP hospital.
