
Thiruvananthapuram in focus for community spread; A.P. reports 13 deaths, 1,178 cases; 1,498 test positive in Karnataka
It was another singleday high for new COVID19 cases in Kerala on Tuesday as 272 people tested positive. The rising trend in communitylinked transmission rang alarm bells for the Health Department. On Tuesday, there were 77 such cases reported in the community. Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, confirmed that at least 15 cases had no known source of infection. These included seven healthcare workers, including doctors, one CISF jawan, and one from the Defence Security Corps in Kannur. The rest of the 195 new cases were imported. Confirming the concerns, 47 local transmission cases, including that of five healthcare workers, were from Thiruvananthapuram. The district also had the second highest case load with 54 new positive results. The virus was spreading fast in the coastal Poonthura area in the capital, with 22 new cases. Mr. Vijayan said the epi

the situation worse. On Tuesday, with 111 recoveries, active cases in Kerala stood at 2,411. Andhra Pradesh reported 13 new deaths and 1,178 fresh cases, taking the death toll to 252 and the tally to 21,197 on Tuesday. The Health Department said 825 persons had recovered. The new deaths occurred in Kurnool (4), Anantapur (3), Chittoor (2), Visakhapatnam (2), Prakasam (1) and West Godavari (1). Of the cumulative tally, 18,520 were locals and the remaining imported cases including 2,257 of other State returnees and 420 of foreign returnees. The tally in Karnataka rose with 1,498 new cases, the total touching 26,815. Of this 11,098 were discharged. With 15 more deaths, the toll touched 416 apart. ronavirus infections with 3,616 persons testing positive for COVID19 on Tuesday. Chennai, in particular, witnessed a fall compared to previous days, while the cases continued to stay high in other districts especially Madurai. With the new cases, the State’s overall tally stood at 1,18,591. Of this, 45,839 persons were under treatment. The total number of persons discharged after treatment rose to 71,116, with another 4,545 discharged across the State. The State’s toll rose to 1,636 with 65 more persons succumbing to the infection. The number of new cases continued to fall in Chennai. The city recorded 1,203 new cases and 39 deaths. Of the 4,545 persons discharged in the State, 2,853 were from city hospitals.
